Any debates you hold must be done so in a mature and sensitive manner. The best debates I've seen have been where the people who started them have a thorough knowledge of what they're talking about, are in the right frame of mind to put their point across and are able to support their argument in an adult way. At least do some research before trying to make your point.
As per usual, good spelling, punctuation and grammar will keep people interested in what you have to say.
Regarding rants:
[glow=red,2,300]We don't care how unfair your parents are being to you. They pay for your clothes, food and the roof over your head. Learn to respect their decisions and the fact they only want what's best for you. Until you can pay for all the above yourself, live with it.[/glow]
Rants are basically to let off steam, so do so.
Just don't flood the forum, and please don't attack other members just because you're angry!
